Narrative:

I’ve been studying the vibe for over twenty-five years. Sometimes seriously, other times sporadically.

My interest in the vibe began in my late teens. Raves, concerts, underground house parties, following bands on tour, and other subcultural activities were my life.

What’s this vibe we’re feeling? Why is it so moving? Why are we experiencing it? How can we understand it?

My first paper on the vibe was for a class my senior year of college. I went on to graduate school and used my master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation to develop a philosophy of the vibe called “bodily emanation.” I argued that the vibe is a form of communication, a way of knowing, and an existential guide for moving through the world, and it can be detected on interpersonal, small and large group, and even global levels.

I’ve expanded my understanding of the vibe over the years. But in all honesty, I realize that I’ll never know all there is. A drop of water can’t grasp the immensity of the ocean. But it can feel and appreciate it. And that’s what the vibe is about. Felt experience. Fields of influence. Authentic connection. Interdependence. Symbiosis.

I am not as idealistic as I once was, but I still believe in these ideas. Raising the vibe of humanity can create a better world.
